Title I Parent and Family Engagement
Jean Childs Young Middle School recognizes that strong partnerships among families, students, staff, and community members are essential to student success. As a Title I school, JCYMS provides families with opportunities to participate in school planning, receive academic resources, monitor student progress, and support learning at home. Families are encouraged to attend school events, academic conferences, workshops, PTA and GO Team meetings, and other family engagement activities throughout the school year.
School Parent Compact
The Jean Childs Young Middle School School-Parent Compact is an agreement that explains how families, students, teachers, and school leaders will share responsibility for improving student achievement. The compact connects learning at school with learning at home and outlines the actions each partner will take to help students meet Georgia’s academic standards.
During the 2026-2027 school year, JCYMS will focus on improving student achievement in English Language Arts and mathematics while strengthening student attendance. The school’s goals include increasing GMAS English Language Arts proficiency by 11%, increasing GMAS mathematics proficiency by 11%, and increasing Average Daily Attendance by 3% by May 2027. Academic priorities include reading comprehension, vocabulary development, mathematical problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, and consistent daily attendance.
JCYMS teachers and staff will provide standards-aligned strategies, instructional resources, progress updates, tutorial opportunities, interventions, and enrichment. Families agree to monitor grades and assignments through Infinite Campus, communicate with teachers, attend academic events, encourage daily reading, practice real-life mathematics, and ensure that students attend school regularly and arrive on time. Students agree to complete assignments, use feedback, read daily, practice academic skills, attend tutorials when needed, ask for help, and share school information with their families.
The School-Parent Compact was jointly developed with input from families, students, and staff. Families may provide feedback on the compact throughout the school year. The compact will also be reviewed during conferences, academic family events, and the annual revision process.
Parent and Family Engagement Plan
The Jean Childs Young Middle School Parent and Family Engagement Plan explains how the school will involve families in supporting student learning and improving academic achievement. JCYMS values families as equal partners and provides opportunities for parents and caregivers to participate in the planning, review, and improvement of Title I programs, the Schoolwide Improvement Plan, the School-Parent Compact, and family engagement activities.
JCYMS communicates with families through the school website, Infinite Campus, email, flyers, text messages, social media, voice messages, progress reports, report cards, conferences, and direct communication from teachers. Information will be provided in understandable formats and, when practicable, in the language families understand. Families may also request reasonable assistance or accommodations to participate in school programs and activities.
Family engagement opportunities include the Annual Title I Meeting, academic Parent-Teacher Conferences, curriculum and family academic nights, Parent Center workshops, PTA meetings, GO Team meetings, volunteer opportunities, family surveys, community partnership events, and virtual activities. JCYMS will also provide families with information about academic standards, assessments, attendance, student progress, technology, digital citizenship, literacy, mathematics, and strategies for supporting learning at home.
Families are invited to provide feedback through meetings, surveys, the Family Engagement Committee, written comments, the school website, and direct communication with the school’s Title I contact. Family feedback will be reviewed by school leadership and used to improve programs, activities, and future revisions of the Parent and Family Engagement Plan.

Family Participation and Feedback
JCYMS welcomes the participation and input of all parents and caregivers. Families are encouraged to join the Family Engagement Committee, attend school meetings, complete surveys, share suggestions, and participate in the annual review of the School-Parent Compact and Parent and Family Engagement Plan. Family input helps the school strengthen academic programs, remove barriers to participation, and create meaningful opportunities that support student learning, attendance, well-being, and achievement.
