What is MTSS?
Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a framework that provides comprehensive, differentiated support based on the unique needs of schools and students.
- MTSS promotes student success through high-quality instruction and responsive interventions.
- It addresses academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs using evidence-based practices.
- Support is provided in layers (tiers) based on student needs.
Families play a critical role in MTSS. When schools and families collaborate, student outcomes improve.
What Should I Expect?
- A proactive, data-driven approach to your child’s education.
- Early identification of needs, matched interventions, and regular progress monitoring.
- Communication about your child’s progress, concerns, and interventions being used.
- A collaborative team effort involving teachers, specialists, and families.
How Can Parents Help?
At School
- Talk to your child’s teachers about concerns.
- Participate in team meetings and share your child’s interests, strengths, and needs.
- Ask questions about intervention plans and progress monitoring.
- Review your child’s most recent data and monitor progress via PowerSchool, report cards, etc.
- Share strategies that work at home with the team.
At Home
- Focus on your child’s growth in targeted skills.
- Praise improvements in those areas.
- Consult with teachers for strategies or resources to support learning at home.
